purchasing a e36 M3 and I wanted to ask you guys

    hey I'm buying a e36 m3 98 model...

and I really feel lucky I found a decent priced m3...

But problem is that cars kinda shaky according to what my wife is sayin..

Well I wanna know if car suppose to shake a lil...and also I smell little bit of gasoline sort a scents when I start the car..

it has a 59k mile on it ...

    almost full optioned too...

    except the chairs r manual...

and I was wondering if those new keys with remote access for e46 will work on my e36...

I'm getting worried about the shakin'...

and hope that you could give me some tips on buying used e36...

Squeaks are normal. Shakin' is not. Do you mean the engine shakes or does it shake when you're at speed?

If you have any doubts, walk away. You'll find another one soon enough. Either way, get an independent mechanical inspection done.

my wife says the seat shakes a little..

it was on neutral wit side on and she says it went broom....broom ..... broooooooom ..... and on and on....kinda rolling sound while she was seating...

it doesn't shake that much but you think it's good to inspect the car by mechanic before I buy, right? What kind of inspection is there I could do..?

Get the car checked out by a mechanic before any money changes hands.

ask the seller if you could split the pre-purchase inspection fee - you'd get a pretty good idea from the PPI if something is wrong with the car.

So I went through inspection, and car was in very good condition...

Thank you... I'm getting the car today...

but when I turn on the headlight check control sign comes on...

why is that? mechanic said it's nothing..

and I had e46 so.. I'm gonna ask one more question ..shouldn't the dash board have display of how many miles I could go with the gas on the tank.. and so on and on??? Also do they have a ski bag for e36 ??? this car has a after market amp... should I remove it?? the car has a alarm but no remote... how much would it me to cost to get a new remote?? the e46 remote will work on e36? do they have short clutch for e36?

wowa, k... I'll try a couple, leave the others for people who are awake.

if you have the computer above the shifter, the miles to go will show there... some people hate the computer, most I think appreciate having it. is this where you are seeing check control?

ski bag - go aftermarket, thule makes a roof rack thats nice and is supposed to fit well

amp - only if it's causing a problem or is broken

don't buy the remote unless you know the alarm is good - I think I heard up to $150 on those. dunno if e46 will work. For $300 for a set of remotes (assuming that's really how much they are?) put a good aftermarket alarm on it.

short clutch - if you are asking short shifter, yep - lots of them, we won't argue about what is best (UUC makes a good one, understeer.com makes a good cheaper one) If you are asking about shortening the travel of the clutch pedal, UUC makes a clutch stop (understeer.com sells 'em : )

Take it out and spin 360's. If it doenst' fall apart, you're good to go.

For the check control issue....The car is telling you to hit the check button on the computer. I bet you have a bad light....probably license plate light. The check control button is on your computer, down to the right, in front of the shifter. The check button is all the way to the right side of all those buttons. Your display will also probably have two sideways triangles on each end.

the computer display would also tell you what is having a hissy fit - as soon as you acknowledge it, the light should go out.

                        welcome to the M.adness :-)
