This past weekend we were down in CT and met up with a few forum friends at the Berlin Turnpike. After the usual cruising, we ended up pretty far out of our way in a deserted industrial complex with a very long, two lane road. Matt and I decided to run our M3s to see how they matched up. To be honest, I didn't think that I stood a chance as his 95 has an intake, exhaust, and a reported "very agressively tuned" Active Autowerke chip, and when I drove it I honestly thought it felt stronger than my car.
I outlaunched him every time. I would leave the line at 4200 RPM with minimal wheelspin and would jump out about a carlength. For the first race, the one time we were able to run it all the way down the road, I held this lead until the end. Matt missed the 1-2 shift on the second race, and on the third my shifter popped off and I couldn't get the car into third gear.
It was friendly, it was fun, and it was probably the only time I would consider this kind of street racing due to the locale and the late hour of the evening. Once we ran it three times, we got the hell out of there.

Race 2 (http://www.ziplink.net/~ctroiane/stuff/race2.mpg) 2 MB
Race 3 (http://www.ziplink.net/~ctroiane/stuff/race3.mpg) 3 MB
You will probably notice the truck that comes out from behind us in the first race - That guy showed up out of nowhere and wanted to run the M3s in his truck. For some reason he thought it would keep up with us, and he actually started the run parallel to us off to the side, and then fell in behind us once we were well past him. I don't know WTF he was thinking, but it did serve as a warning that we probably weren't the first to use that place as an impromptu track, and was one of the reasons I was hot to get the hell out of there when we were finished.
