Shark Injector/intake/exhaust - yes or no? all or none?

I am looking into doing some mods to my 99 m3. I am strongly considering a Shark Injector and an exhaust. The shark injector i know increases the rev limiter and the top speed, but does it provide gains that you can feel without an exhaust? If not, im thinking about getting the active autowerks Track Pipe and exhaust. To be honest, i am reallly lost and dont know whether to do chip, intake, and exhaust, if so which ones, OR keep it stock OR just the chip alone.

I dont really want a loud noise or a lot of attention. I know that active autowerks offers an OBD II conversion for $2k, but i dont know if that will void my extended warranty. Basically, what i need from you guys is some help on doing some slight mods that provide gains and worth the money - Chip & exhaust/ chip, intake & exhaust, chip only or no chip at all....also which ones?

    Thanks a lot,

    Andrew

IMO the only mod you're gonna add thats worth the money would probably be the Shark injector. I put it on my 328is when i had it and LOVED it. The Conforti intake sounded cool on the 328 , but when i put it on the M3, i found that the M3 engine drowned out any sound. I didnt notice any gain after installing the CAI. You may get small gains from the exhaust, but it wont be very noticable. Itll sound real sweet though.

Ive recently turned my speed addiction into Audiophilia, lol. But if i were to start modding my M3, id go with just the Shark injector and some serious suspension/handling mods. It's too expensive to try and squeeze more HP out of our engines in my opinion.

First off, welcome another NoVA dude!

I can give an opinion here, b/c I've owned two 99's. First one I bought with chip and Dinan exhaust. Loved the low growl (but not too loud) sound and the quick rev. Took the exhaust off my first, now is on my second, with a Conforti CAI. Probably going to get the software soon.

IMO, as long as you're reasonable in your expectations, you'll be pleased. You're probably only adding 20 HP total with all three mods, but you're gaining quicker response and a great sound. FYI I drove my new 99 for a few days before I had chance to swap exhausts, and I REALLY missed it.

Having said all that, I've been thinking lately that the one mod you can do to really improve the driving experience is a SSK. That's also on my wish list...

Look to Sirius as a big resource -- he's at the dealership in Fairfax.

I have a 99 M3 and upgraded to with the ECIS Intake, Shark Injector, and Rogue Engineering DMS exhaust. I also upgraded to UUC Underdrive pullies. The car feels great and you can definitely feel the gains.

However, keep your expectations reasonable. You're not going to get thrown back in your seat after these upgrades but you will feel a gain.

          Good luck.

If you plan on doing more power mods down the road, do not spend any money on the shark injector. Get the intake and exhaust, then keep upgrading the intake path (HFM, ACS Delete, larger throttle body, manifold) When you get the HFM, get some custom software to make it all work better from AA.

if you are going to do the software, cai, exhaust... you might as well get the M50 intake manifold... especially for an obd2 car..

aside from throttle response, i didnt notice any difference from my friends 99 Dinan M3 compared to my 95 M3. (before my euro hfm and exhaust)

                  Intake...Yes

                  Catback....Yes

                  AA track pipe.....No

                  Shark.....No

                  OBDI conversion.....Not worth it.

                  Pulleys are another good option.

I went with dinan because they match the cpo warranty about 1.5 yrs ago. Spent about $5k on software, cai, exhaust, air flow meter, and throttle body. Very noticeable increases and great reliability.

However, I live in denver, and the altitude has a pretty drastic effect on performance. So I went for broke about 2 weeks ago, and installed a dinan supercharger ($6k plus installation and worth every penny!). 340 bhp from 6.5 lbs of boost...

I'm now selling the used (<10k mi) dinan cai, and dinan air flow meter for $500 (new = $450 each).

Dignan: WOW! Keep telling us how you like the Dinan SC.

Purp -- can you give me a download on exactly what the M50 manifold gives you if you go that route?
