Oil light still on after oil change

you need one of those service interval reset tools that connects to the OBD port IIRC

You might be able to pay a BMW specialist to use their reset tool. There is a ghetto way of doing it to by connecing pins in your ECU..run some searches on oil light resets.

Also, you might be able to find a local member who HAS the tool you need.

        doh -

check this - you can do it yourself with a piece of wire and a little patience.

2 sets of instructions... same thing, either way will work ('nuthin ghetto about it : )

ground out pin 8 in your ecu for 10 seconds with the car in acc position 1, and then you just saved your self a trip and lots of money!! i do it all the time

Sirius, if I don't get it to work, i'll drop by your place. I have been in and out of town this week (GF's grandmother passed away) and will be out of town sunday - monday and will be back in town tuesday but i'm working on a new contract... let me know when i might be able to drop by your place and i'll do that...

I would be wary of resetting it via connecting pins on your own. I've heard horror stories from stuff like that.

i reset mine myself. But i don't think it is pin 8. check the forum for the instructions. Have someone watch the dash as you reset and they will tell you when it is done. Nothing ghetto about it. just saves the money for the tool

I've heard if you ground it for too long that you'll reset the next inspection light too. Someone once told me that his brother worked for BMW and that they've seen fried ECU's come in before from people doing this. I don't know how true it was or if the guy was told that just to help bring in more business for overpriced oil changes.

yes, if you hold it there too long, it will reset the inspectionII

But that's called out on the web page - just follow the directions, it'll be fine.
