Routing speaker wire through the doors

I am overhauling the sound system in my convertible 99 M3, and have chosen to go the self install route (with the help of experts on this board of course!)

I need to run some heavy duty speaker wire through to the speakers in the front door panels.

I removed the door panels, but the boot for running the wires in is pretty small and has quite a bit of wiring already in it (mirror wire, etc).

If anyone has done this I would appreciate a few pointers...

    Take care,

    Jason

I went down the self install route as well, which happens to be a hell of alot cheaper than a pro install. The only problem was when I came to the front door speakers. As I was putting in a good quality speaker cable I didnt use the OE wiring, the down-side to this being the wire was cable tied to the outside of the protective loom. But its quite well hidden, and I dont mind saving money to put up with a wire you only see when the door is open (and your really looking for it)

Yeah I had done that with my other car, but it introduced wind noise and I didn't really care for that....

There is no way I'm getting monster cable through the rubber boot, so I may not have a choice....

What are you replacing in the door? Mids & Tweets? The factory wire sin't bad for mids & tweets. It is twisted to reduce injection of noise and it is many stranded which is good for high frequencies. Granted the quality of the copper itsefl isn't the best. I am an audio snob and I wired my Dynaudio tweeters to the factory wire resulting in what I would consider great sound.

Yeah it's mids and tweets. But it's high powered MB Quart Q series mids and tweets. At any rate, I'll prob just reroute the wire along side the rubber boot and deal with it that way.

          Take care,

Unbolt the boot from the body of the car. There are two 8mm bolts. Then crush the boot accordian style and run a piece of small wire or string through the boot. Then use electrical tape to very securely connect the monster cable to whatever wire or string you used. Pull the big wire through with the smaller wire. You will probably not get it on the first try but it will be worth it. Good luck!
