warning light, what does it mean

Forgive me if this has been addressed, but I couldn't find any info on it. I just went to lunch and noticed a red warning light on my dash. I don't have a manual for my 97 m3 sedan so I'm hoping you guys might have a answer as to what this light is warning me about. It is red, on the right series of warning lights and looks like a circle with three dashed lines on the right and left of it. Sort of like this (0) except the () are dashed. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Its probably your brake pad wear light.

    Time for new brakes.

I did my front brakes earlier this year, It wasn't really that hard. I have been putting of the back brakes till it cooled down and the mosquitoes subsided, but it looks like I'm gonna have to brave the great humid texas outdoors and bite the bullet. At least I have all the parts, well except the now damaged rear brake pad sensor thingy. Oh and by the way, I spent around $320 for all parts, and maybe $30 for a couple of tools and supplies for all four rotors and pads, not too bad when the stealer was gonna charge me $1200+ for the job. Hey I just saved $850, time for a new stereo!!!

I pulled off the front rotors when I put new suspension on, brakes look pretty darn easy. With deals out there like cross drilled, good rotors and axxis pads for less than 350, makes sense to do them all at once....
