            Lots of questions…

SG_M3 hit the nail on the head. I didn't buy these, they were OEM for my car, I just found out that this was the case though.

There was a production overrun for LTW and GT doors, these were used on the ///M production line until they ran out (Q2 '97), after this, because of the expense BMW went back to the standard material.

That this overrun aligned with the introduction of the 3.2 is simply a coincidence, they've got nothing to do with the "Evo". For example, if you have a '98 Evo, you won't have aluminium doors.

Now, (unfortunately) because the US M3 did not come off the ///M production line then I don't think any US M3's (except the LTW) will have these, but of course you can check if you have a magnet.

Weight saving is approx 75 kg's so yeah, about 150 lbs. Not bad for a "no cost option"...

              :haha:

M3AN, Did you re-attach allthe interior trim panels, speakers, etc or did you leave them bare? What is the difference in weight with that stuff in or out on stock vs. aluminum doors? Unreal find!!

Automotive aluminum is pretty strong actually.

Only problem is, if you get damage to it, lets say a good sized dent. It really can't be repaired because of the nature of the metal. The repair process will end up warping the panal.

Replacement is uaually the only option.

At the shop, we had to buy over $10,000 worth of equipment just to fix the new E60's.

I wonder what would happen in an accident because the doors are right from the factory. So, you'd have to try to convince your insurance to go for the super expensive doors....because theorhetically they are covering the cost of THOSE doors.
