    Oil Level!!!

    Hello everyone:

my 95 ///M3 takes 6 Qs of oil each oil change( filter changed also). The level of oil is on that top Dot on the oil stick(that where it should be right?). do you add a little more than 6 Qs?? I heard M3s like lots of oil.. and if yes, how much more would you add and where do you stop on the oil stick mark??!!

    thanks

Put oil between red and green. Don't go over green, don't go below red.

thanks Trevor.. that was clear.. mine is a bit over green.. it is on the little dot above the green line on that pic by 2 mm.. you think I should drain some out to see if the ticking sound would go away!

Also, I noticed the black plastic cover that has ///M on it ( timeing chain cover), is that a factory part? cuz mine 1995 has it painted and it is chipping out now, so I wonder if I can buy this cover. it looks really cool.

      thanks

The black part is the valve cover on the 3.2l. I just added the M badge cause it was lying around in my room collecting dust :P

I wouldn't try to drain it out, you'll let more out then you need heh... let it burn off.

I always overfill my M3, and most guys I know that autocross/track their cars do so. I've heard that our engines can safely take up to 8 quarts. I find that if I'm below 7 quarts, my engine will develop a tick when driven hard at autocrosses. More oil doesn't guarantee the tick will disappear, but it makes it much less of a problem.

In any case, try to stay at least at the green line; go above if you hear ticking after hard driving. Topping off your oil is probably the best thing you can do for your engine between oil changes.
