    intro and Questions

Hi, my name is Derek, Im 16, and a junior in highschool.

I currently Have no car, or license for that matter. I have wanted a BMW M3 since i was 7. I think i will get an E36 for now, keep it mostly stock, and get an E46 after school (2 years community collage, 2 years at a State U, mabye i will go to UTI)

I was wondering if the E36 was a good choice. If not, which do you suggest i get? Why do/dont you think it is a good choice? Were any years better/worse than the others? I need it for a daily driver/weekend racer. I was looking around at parts, at activeautowerks.com and thought i'd get the X-brace, Intake, Exhaust, Chip, Koni shocks/springs, ant the strut bars. I would also like to change the tires and rims, rims... im not sure, but something close to 17x9 (f) and 18X11 (r), and im not sure which tires to get... Will tires that tall/wide rub? what size do you guys have on?

    Thanks for any input.

*edit, i also want an electric fan.

    Welcome for one.

If you can keep up with the maintaince of the car, get the E36, its a wonderful car for sure.

I just went back to stock rims actually. The rides much better. I don't think 11's will fit without rolling the quarters.

Also, no E36 M3 came with an electric fan.

I agree. My first car ( didnt get it till I was 20 ) was a 95 NIssan altima. Im not so glad I blew $3000+ on stupid parts, but I so glad I learned on a car that was cheap to run and many, many mistakes were made that I learned from.

xfeastonarsex: I just dont want a FF beater. Everyone says "why dont you get a civic, isnt that what you kids drive nowadays?" but i dont want a civic, i want a BMW. No matter what, i will get a BMW or Mercedes.

Sirius: i meant i wanted to add an electric fan instead of the pully one. I think ill keep the stock rims too. I looked online, and the rims were EXPENSIVE. Not woth the extra contact area, at least with the 25 more hp. So i think ill keep stockers, and put some khumo Ecsta supras or something (ZR- rated, and at least an A in traction) on. Do you know what size wheels/tires come stock?

So i think ill do everything but the rims/tires.

            Intake- 350

            Exhaust- 700

            X-brace- 130

            Strut bars- 400

            Shocks/springs- 670

            Chip- 400

            Tires- 400

            Total~3,000

              All great drivers do

IMO, get a beater first car. Drive it for a year, then start to look for an e36.

95's came with 17x7.5 all around with 235/40's. Unless they had the optional painted/stamped ltw's then they were 17x7.5 front/17x8.5 rear with 235/40's all around.

              96+ had 17x7.5/17x8.5 with 225/45 fronts and 245/40 rears.

I won't talk about mods, cause it doesn't need them in your hands. Nothing personal.

I think you should get the car and then worry about it.
