New problem with my '97 M3

My '97 M3 climate control has been going on and off by itself without warning or reason. Has any else with a 3-series had this problem before? Any ideas (without taking a second mortgage for the BMW dealer). The AC blows ice cold when it decides to work. It goes off from anywhere between thirty seconds to ten minutes. Thanks.

mine was doing something similair. it went completely out and the a/c fan would continue to run. it's actually a capacitor in the back of the unit. i managed to fix it with parts from radio shack. it took a 35 volt capacitor. there is a guy on ebay that will fix it for you for 49.95. don't take it to bmw. they will want to replace the entire unit. check later posts. there is a link that has full detailed instructions on how to do the fix yourself.

There's a thread on bimmerforums about this and how to fix it.
