I have a squeal coming from the front of my engine. It sounds like a bearing or pulley is going out. The sound is coming from somewhere by the alternator. The weird part is that the squeal only happens when the car is cold. After the car has been warmed up for five or ten minutes the sound goes away. The sound is most prevalent when the car is idling. After 2000 RPM it is hard to hear because of all the noise coming out of the engine.
I took out the alternator and took it to an auto electric shop. The owner spun the alternator for me and said that the bearing is fine. I now think that it is one of the pulleys. It is either the pulley next to the alternator or the belt tensioner pulley. Could you guys please give me some advice? Thanks!
