    Cam Sensor Question

My check engine light came on the other day. I scanned for the codes and it came up with a cam sensor. I ordered a new one and decided to look how difficult it would be to replace. It seems to me that the vanos solenoid is in the way of the allen bolt for the cam sensor. I just would like to verify that the solenoid needs to be removed? My eyes tell me that a 24mm or so wrench would loosen it and then it should just spin off. Does this sound about right? Thanks for your time.

Well, I tackled this project despite the lack of advice found on the forum. If nothing for future reference, here is what to do.

      1. Remove upper intake cover.

      2. Remove air snorkel going to alternator.

      3. Remove vanos solenoid.

      4. Remove oil supply line to vanos.

      5. Loosen allen screw on cam sensor.

      6. Trace cam sensor wire under intake manifold. Use large screwdriver from above to pop clip on cam sensor plug which is under intake. Try not to take clip off totally as it will be a pain to put back on later.

      7. Install in the reverse and then clear codes.

      Hopes this helps.

        Doug,

Good stuff. Is the Cam Sensor the same as the Knock-Sensors?

I've had the dealer replace two on my car due to the pistons occasionally going off-line and it was supposed to be a biatch to do the work. :box:

Mine did that the other day... but that was because I started the car funny by mistake. (finger sliped off the key, and I restarted the car too fast again, throwing everything inside off some).

I just cleared it and moved on.
