    Why OBDII?

Dumb question: Does anyone know exactly why BMW came out with OBDII on the 96 and moved away from the OBDI? Emissions? Performance? Just curious...

I think it was to comply with Gov inc. regs. I am pretty sure all cars sold in the US have a similar emissions monitorng system.

So when taking emissions they don't let you have fun by seeing you car on a dyno but instead having youe gas cap taken off and then immidiately put back on. And to also let you have less fun with mods.

Which raises a question. Are there any all-wheel drive OBD I cars out there? I would like to see them try testing the emissions on one if there are. :haha:

In Ontario AWD cars just get an idle and higher rev emission check. No dyno for them.

AWD OBD-I? Like the E30 body 325iX? Or those rally-winning Audi's, I dont remember what they were called. Hate to see them do that to an iX with an auto; the automatics in some those E30's could not handle being revved in park/neutral.
