    Questions about a used car

Ok Im in college right now and am looking at getting an E36 M3. I found one 10 miles from my house. Its a 1995 with only 48,000 miles on it. For 16,500, this seems like one hell of a deal. When I took my mom's 04 M3 to the BMW car wash I talked to a guy with a 95 E36 and he said it was the best year for the E36. I forget why, but he said it performed better?? He sure sounded like he knew what he was talking about. he had a fully modified M3 all by Dinan. What is the 0-60 for a 95 2 door 5 speed M3?

    Thanks

    0-60 for all E36 M3s is about 5.4 seconds, +/- .2

Depending on alot of factors of course.

Doubtful, I know the E46 coupes are around 4.8 to 60 on avg, with the cabs being a bit slower, but I still think your moms car would get you in the straight line.

Only one way to find out though, go race your mom.

BMW.com states the cab does 0-60 in 5.4. I think this is wrong however. I beat the **** out of a twin turbo Cayenneand destroyed a 325hp GT mustang. I honestly think its probably about 4.9-5.0. Im really hoping to run into a coupe sometime so I can see how they compare. Is there any other info I should know about the E36? I know more about the E46. Is it true that the e36 actually handles better than the e46? What is the defference in the 3.0L and 3.2L (e36 engines)? Is there a HP or performance difference?

          Thanks for your help

Sounds like a keeper. The 95 seems to have it's proponents. Having driven a 3.0 many years ago when they came out, I thought the engine might have felt more rev free than the 3.2 I currently have. Might be wrong though. The emissions system is easier to tweak as well. If the car is in excellent shape, it might be a decent buy.

what do you mean by proponents? Is the 3.0L less horse power or slower than the 3.2L?? It seems like the car is in excellent shape. Are there any reliablility issuses with the E36? Im trying to learn as much as I can about this car. Im away ast school right now and Im going to talk to my parents tommorow about whether or not I can get a car. If anyone else knows somthing I should know, please tell me

Check out the FAQ section. Also, the E46 is going to own you past 60...that's where we run out of steam and they REALLY dominate.

The 3.2 and 3.0 both have 240 HP. Some say the 3.2 is slightly faster. The 3.2 has more torque at lower rpm. I would assume the 3.0 is a bit happier towards red line than the 3.2. It has been so long since I drove a 3.0 that I have no comparison other than distant seat of the pants memory. Both engines are basically reliable, but there are some things to attend to as they age. (See FAQ).

go to the e36 section and there are only like 4 threads.

Read the thread on buying a used e36, it should help a lot.

Oh, don't click that FAQ button at the top of the page. Go to the actual forum by clicking back to the main page and going in through there, or use the forum jump link at the bottom right of this page.

if stock 0-60 is ~5.4, what would it take to get high 4's? What would a cold air intake, header and good exaust do? Also, does anyone make a Quad exaust? I dont care for the look of the exaust only on one side of the car

You're not going to break into the 4's with stuff like CAI's etc.

Honestly, it takes a lot of money to make this car significantly faster.
