    Test drove '03 M3 &'00 Mroadster

I test drove an '03 M3 and an '00 M roadster today at the stealership. Here are my impressions on both. I was a little disappointed in the e46 M3. Yes, its fast in a straight line and handles great but I don't think it handles better than the e36 M3. They feel completely different. The e36 M3 definitely feels more connected to the road than the e46. I also didn't like how loose the clutch felt on the m3. It needs to be stiffer. In regard to the M roadster, I only have one thing to say...WOW! That car is truly a driver's car. I couldn't stop smiling when I got out of the car. Not only does it fly but it just keeps pulling in each gear. There's no doubt in my mind that the M roadster will be my next car.

If u were stunned by the M Roadster you ought to drive the M Coupe, that car is even better than the roadster. You can instantly tell that the M Coupe has a tighter/stiffer chassis built for serious abuse.

What was ure favourite feature of the M Roadster ?

Mines have to be in following order :-

    1) the Seats ( how cool r they with the little patches near where ure balls hang in the exterior colour)

    2) the dials r so cool with the chrome rings and the way the numbers and marks r designed

    3) the perfect ass !

I've been trying to persude my sister 2 get 1 but she wants a gay Audi TT :banghead:

I reckon its definatly 1 of the best lookin M's available.

Is 2000 the year that BMW gave new life to the M engine in the roadster and the M coupe? Or was it 2001? Anyways, if it wasn't the 315hp engine you should really try to get one or just drive one....holy; I'd have to say it's way too much power for the little car.

I got to drive the 2002 M coupe for a day, and I have to say everything is perfect about the car except a little too much power  . Going 50 on the freeway and in 3rd, WOT and on a highway(249 North) turn the tail lost a little control. I was only accelerating from 50 and haven't even hit 70 yet. Imola red, concealed V1, 6sp, 315hp, seats, two tone interior.....lovely....But then the guy sold it for a Boxster S....

what do you mean "non boom" engine? Is that saying that the same 3.2 liter engine in the m3 will go boom, and the one in the roadster won't because of the exhaust change? Or is there something else thats non boom? heh

I think he is referring to the oiling problems the main bearings of the S54 have been plagued with. The engine will sure as hell boom if you spin/lockup a main bearing . . .

well, is that for all the S54 engines, or is the m roadster oiled right?

The S54 is always a boom engine...

There were some M coupe guys who had probs as well...

I can't believe that your friend sold the m coupe for a boxster S. The M coupe is this raw beast of a car and the boxster is such a step down it's not even funny.

the m roadster I drove did not have the s54 engine. Who cares! Its plenty fast. I really don't think that car needs any more HP than it already has......its freakin ridiculous!!!

Mcoupe is alot like the E36 Evo to drive except its alot less tolerable on crap roads (bumps, cobbles , e.t.c) and the E36 is more planted at speeds above 100mph. and the Evo has the higher topspeed, and the missing 6th gear.

I have seen several m-roadsters in the shop because the rear sub carrier tore the floor up.

Ditto on that. It's sad, I think BMW should service that under their responsibility. I mean, if you drive a car like it's supposed to be and that happens....??? And if the papers you sign for warranty cover that problem, then why not? Unless it's modified in some way....Oh well....

Also, I say non-boom engine because to my understanding, The m roadsters/coupes didn't go boom; they were made in conjunction after the boom era. Am I correct? But since some M coupes have this problem....=(

And the cracked rear...=( I've seen pics of this, it's very sad--the car will never be the same anymore, unless you laser line it up like those machines used to realign a frame of a car after it has been shifted.

Yeah, the saddest thing ever; Boxster S over a M coupe. He enjoyed the car very much and I get to drive the thing about twice a month on the freeway, and once I got to keep it for the whole day to drive around Houston. I don't even want to drive the Boxster S.
