    M3 Vs CLK 430

I was driving along richmond ave in staten island this past saterday and this guy in a sliver 2002 CLK 430 (convertable) came along side me and entised me to race. When the light turned green i let him go. When we got to the next light we were side by side again and he's reving his car with his foot on the brakes and all that good stuff so this time i went for it. I turned off my Air conditioner and when the light turned green we took off. I messed up a bit on take off so he was ahead of me by about 2 cars in first gear. When i shifted to second i realized i forgot to click off my friggin ASC (automatic stability control). because my car slowed down before it shot out again (i love that feeling of instant power tho) But not to worry, i clicked it off as we were racing and even with a bad start and the ASC on (but eventually off) i cought up to him in third and just kept walking away from him like he was nothing. It was great.

I love the fact that our cars are older and still kick arse when they are asked too. When we got to the next light we spoke for a few seconds and he complemented me on the win. Not that the win wasn't good and it was all in good fun without any harsh or stupid words said when he lost but I wish i had done everything right from the start so i could have really showed him what the car was capable of. But i guess a win is a win no matter which way you get it. But i have to repeat this, i messed on on two major points in the race: The take off and the ASC on and i still wooped him. It's great. I thought i'd share this story with you guys. eace:

I agree my car is ten years old and I have no problem showing my rear lights to brand new high perforamnce sports cars. I have beaten everything from 350z to Mustang GT's, all with ease.

It's great isn't it. These guys in there newer cars think they could just blow us by. Think again!!

Obviously there are many cars out there that can blow US by but it's still nice to know that we can hang with the best of them.

I'm considering selling my car to purchase the new E46 M3. That's basically the only car that would make me sell my E36. But when i get in my car and have fun with it like i did this pass weekend it makes me think twice. I've been considering selling this car of mine for so long now and looking for the new one but i can't get myself to do it, for several reasons. 1) I think it's stupid (sometimes) since i already own an M3 and it's a great car and it was paid in full since the first day i had it, 2) i have had basically not one problem with this car other than maintanance, and 3) I love the fact that there aren't many Estoril blues out there. But then when i pass by the E46 all three of those reasons fly out the window. O well. For now i think i'm sticking with this one especially since i don't feel like getting a loan for a car right now.

In 1998 I Bought A 95 M3 Artic Silver. My Car Was Stolen At My University 2 Years Later. I Did Not Have Full Coverage. I Lost All The Money. I Saved What I Could And Added That To My Money And 4 Months Later Got Myself A 98 2 Door With 9500 Miles On It. One Year Later In A Stroke Of Genius (ha Ha) I Sold The M3 For An Infinti Qx4 . (dont Ask) I Still Dont Know What I Was Thinking. My Point Is That I Ended Up Wrecking The Jeep And Now Have A Cpo 99 Silver E36 M3. I Now Know I Will Never Change.

I guess owning an M is like a drug. Once you own one you'll always need one.

Nice win Fabio! Nice thinking turning the ac off..

I ran into a honda s2000 the other day at a red and he was looking over at me, i figured he wanted to race but he was not revving so i held off the gas and left asc on.. Should have known he floored it and then so did i (delayed) i actually took him in first by maybe half car length if that but then I shifted into second O' **** asc was still on loss of power and he took the lead by third I had him... But I would have owned him with fair start a asc off.

I was told on a few occasions that the Honda S2000 can wip us. I guess that's not true if you beat him even with all those negatives. Let show these newer cars what we got!!!

On a side note, i was talking to some guy the other day in a parking lot who owns the Chrysler Crossfire. I asked him if it was quick and he said he blew the doors off a mustang (not surprising, LOL) and he siad he also beat one of our M3's. Has anyone else encountered one of these vehicles and had some fun?? I think we could beat it. NO?? I know our cars aren't made for drag/street racing, and that we'll hold our own on a track to just about any new car, but you have to admit, strait line racing is fun.

The new crossfire SRT-6 is supposed to run 0-60 in the low 5's so I doubt the regular crossfire that is out now will hang with us. The crossfire out now is an 18 valve SOHC V-6 so.... I bet the guy was lying.

I doubt a non SRT-6 Crossfire would take us unless we messed up something.

An S2k will take us from a launch ONLY if he hates his clutch. You gotta really rev those things high to launch at any decent rate.

I've run the non-SRT6 Crossfire on the freeway (typical ~60 to ~90 runs) without any problem. Haven't run one from a stop, though.

As for the S2000, I agree with Astan. If I beat the snot out of my clutch, my S2000 can outrun my M3. Anything short of a 7000+ clutch drop, however, and my M3 wins.
