Stereo install- '96 Coupe with H/K Sound

Has anyone installed a new stereo head unit in a Coupe with H/K Sound? The only question I really have is how does the new stereo affect the switch for the sound on the center console? Do you need to do anything additional from a normal stereo install to work around the switch?

    Thanks.

I did it in my sedan, but that shouldn't make a difference. Get a wiring harness adapter and an adapter for the aerial and you should be fine.

A new HU doens't affect that little switch, as its still functional.

I put an alpine 9833 in mine, just went to circut city, bought 2 wire harnesses, and an antenna adapter, pluged right in. The New HU are the same size as the old ones, so u just slide it in. Getting the wires out of the way is a trick though.

Thanks for the quick replies. What does the sound switch actually do? I can hear some difference when I flip it back and forth but I can't really tell what difference I'm hearing.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to tackle this project and the alarm module project at the same time later this week.

hm....i think it puts more sound out of the mids and tweeters, to me it seems to be much more clear and bring out some hidden sounds. to me it sounds better on hi. you'll notice a big difference with the switch when u put a new headuniit in. i would recomend alpine. what unit do you think your gonna put in.

I'm definitely leaning towards an Alpine, that's what I had in my 1995 Coupe before I bought this 1996.

All I know is that I gotta get rid of the original tape deck, it's driving me crazy not having a CD player.

With the new head unit, I actually prefer the switch off. It applies an additional sound "phasing" or eq or something on the sound and does it through the amp. If the new head unit has all of these features, then don't worry about the switch.

Using the stock HK system, the switch turned off works better for talk radio (yes, some of us actually listen to it), and better turned on for music. It seems to bring up the bass and treble.

My alpine 9833 is awsome, the 9835 looks much sweeter though, costs alot more, but the screen looks so much better. MP3 is the way to go, so nice to cram like 10+ cds (depending on quality) on to one disc.

I always leave my switch on. It seems to create more of a streo affect...

check out clarion. don't recall which model, but it's black to match the interior, back light matches interior lights and it has a built in hard drive. just push a button on the unit and it records songs off your cd's so you don't have to carry them. it ran me around 400.00 plus install. it also sounds great with the hk.

Are you installing a new amp for your HU?
