One year anniversary (Long [short story])

    September 15, 2003.

That monday morning came too early. 4:50 the alarm went off and I dagged myself out of bed to get ready for work. Mondays normally sucked, its the beginning of the work week and we are always busy right off the bat. However, this monday was going to end up being a very good monday.

After ariving at work and getting through the normal monday morning rush, I was talking with a few of my co-workers, explaining how I needed a new car, that my current one at the time was starting to fall apart and it was time to move on. One of them said there was a traded in M3 out back, and I should go check it out. I pondered this for a moment and came back wtih something like, "Its an M3, driven hard. Probably won't last me very long, engines probably taken a beating too.". (I didn't know much then....). I had already passed up about three or four traded M3s at this point.

So, I strolled outback and found the car sitting inconspicuously between a couple of other, larger BMW's. When I first saw her, I noticed the dark tint on the windows, that she was lowerd, had a front splitter and a nice looking spoiler on her. Not to mention the aftermarket rims. "Race car" was the first thing that came to my mind. Paint was excellent and from what I could see, she looked clean on the inside.

I then went to talk to our used car manager at the time so I could get the keys and drive her around when I went to lunch. After talking to him and getting the keys from him and starting to make my way back up the street, he turned around real quickly and said "Oh, by the way, it has a brand new engine in it". I think my responose was something alone the lines of "No fuking way".

Durring lunch I took my test drive. Wow. 101,000 on her at the time. Drove like a champ, except the suspension was kinda fubared because the last owner put lowering springs on stock shocks. There indeed was a new engine, complete block with the head. After the test drive I knew I had to have her.

Went back to our sales department and talked numbers, go on the phone with dad and told him to meet me at the dealer that night after work. (Needed him to co-sign with me because I had zero credit rating at the time). By 8:00pm, I was on my way home in my new M3. I was elated.

Three days later we were hit by a hurricane. :eek2:

I was outside in 80 mph winds making sure trees wern't going to fall on my

    baby. :haha:

On a side note: The previous owner happened to stop by the body shop to get something done on his other car and I ended up meeting him, found out why he put a new engine in. Then he said he would drop off all the reciepts and records for the car, and all the old parts that came off car for his mods.

    One year later.

Boy, the saying 'Time flies when you're having fun' is so true.

So, over the last year. What have I done to her?

    Put 16,955 miles on her.

    Things I had to fix:

    New idler pullies.

    New altenator.

    New belts.

    Brake light switch.

    New factory shocks/springs.

    Reverted back to OEM exhaust.

    New set of rims.

Reveterd back to OEM pullies (Going back to my URI's very soon though)

Things I have done because I wanted to:

    Chrome insturment cluster rings.

    Chrome window switch surrounds.

    M-tec front lip. Black mesh.

    Three spoke steering wheel swap.

ZKW headlamps with DDEs and hids.

    OEM alarm.

    Two new headunits.

    E46 illuminated shift knob.

    M-Tech pedals and e-brake handle.

    Will the mods stop????

Yeah. He money shifted going about 120 at the track. He said he was going around the a turn, and was droping from 5th to 4th, when the tranny shifted under him and he hit 2nd instead. Killed the engine. The audi behind him said he was hit by a bunch of metal parts. Rods blew apart, valves bent, holes everywhere.

So, he droped a new engine in put some TME's on and then traded for some reason.

Just out of curiosity Sirius, how come you put on the new rims? I honestly think the M looked better with the old ones on? Don't get me wrong, I like it now, but better before Did you just want the stock, sleeper look back?

Probably splitters, then putting my pullies back on. Then I am probably done for the time being.

Well, didn't like thoes rims anyways. I wanted to go back to OEM and to 17's. I liked the LTW's because they are strong and lightweight. Not to mention I love the look.

I bent my other rim twice, and the others were pretty bent up anyways, so I just wanted to start fresh.

How bent are they? Are you interested in selling them? I may be up for a spare set of rim for snow tires?

I only got three good ones, the other has a crack down it about an inch long... But they arn't too bent I don't think.

If you can find someone who can fix something like that... by all means I would love to get rid of them.

That was a great deal. I love the new engine aspect. The LTW's optimise the look of your car. They make it look like an M3. I also like the stock bumper/airdam as opposed to the splitter it came with. Now...lose the spoiler and get a lip spoiler and it will be perfect.

I would lose the spoiler.. but I don't feel like asking one of the guys at work to fix and then repaint my deck lid, since its bolted to it. But I already have a bunch of panals I need to be repainted anyways: Hood, front bumper cover, right fender and door.

I had fun reading that. Your car does look amazing (in person too...that's not just pics guys) considering the age.

                            Thanks Allen.

The thing is that there were lots of little things wrong with my paint when I got the car (mostly little rock chips on the hood and front), which is why I got a good deal, so I don't care as much about my exterior as I should. When I polish and wax it up, the paint still looks great though.

My job just got nuts though, so I ran out of time to actually take care of this thing as much as I'd like to. I hate automatic car washes, so I'm really quite stuck. I just deal with my dirty car.

One thing I have to say for the magma interior is that it stays in excellent shape. I wonder if it is nappa leather because it actually has longevity.

I'm going to recondition my modena with that leatherique stuff one of these weekends. I tried once unsuccessfully already. I'll snap pics of it once it's actually clean.
