Thumping Noise Coming form My M3

When ever i would shift gears this morning i would notice a slight thump from the exhaust going from 1 to 2. Then later when ever i would let off of the gas or get on the gas, the exhaust would wissel for a second. Then later this afternoon i red lined the car and this huge bang came out the back, it sounded like the muffler fell off the car. So i slow down to check if something broken, everything looks fine to me. Then i start to drive of and when ever i tried to engage a gear it would make a constant thumping noise, as if something was lose. It became so bad that i had to have it towed to BMW. When my car was rolled of off the flat bed, there was screw that feel lose coming from underneath my car. It actually looked like a bolt it was 3 inches tall and pretty wide. What do you think the problem was?

i'm not sure but a thumping usually indicates rear sub-frame damage or u fcuked the clutch or gearbox.

Possibly the subframe broke loose in the back.

I had that problem too. My screw that screws into the diff bushing was loose I also broke the rear dogbone bushing I think its called
