Help with far too much understeer

Was wondering if anyone could help with my understeer problems?

I own an E36 M3 EVO Convertable, had abit of a tear up with a MONDEO ST220 the other day, which we all know is nowhere near as fast as the animal of an M3 in own! But when it came to cornering, I couldn't get near it cos I had so much bloody understeer! I was thinking of investint in a strut brace. Has anyone got any other suggestions in overcuming this problem?

    Cheers

Wider tires up front would help some.

I've heard that strut braces don't add THAT much. An X-brace is supposed to help turn in?

Wider tires is the way to go...or narrower in the back (blah).

The US spec convirtables had the X-brace so your's should already have it. front tire size width will help. aftermarket swaybars are the best way to dial in the amount of understeer or oversteer you want based on the adjustments (firm front, soft rear, or vice versa). springs, shocks and also camber plates can all modifiy your understeer/oversteer characteristics, I'd start off with swaybars personally, cuz it eliminates alot of sway without changing ride quality. just my 2 cents

The easist way to fix understeer is with the driver and tire pressures. What pressures are you running? Remember slow in, fast out. If you brake, and then give the car time to transfer the weigh to the front, it should have much more grip.

SG has the right answer. If you stiffen the front relative to the back, you will increase understeer. Tire pressure and or alignment might be all you need to increase your front end grip. After that you can add spring/bar or shock adjustments if that doesn't get you where you want.

Cheers for the advice lads. I'm running the standard M3 wheels with TOYO PROXES T1-S, checked the pressure as soon as I got back, front and rear were running at 2.0 bar, up it to 2.3 (front) and 2.4 (rear) as shown in the book.

This might sound stupid, but what is an X-brace? Is it simular to a strut brace? and will it b obvious if i've got 1?

                Cheers again lads

The x-brace is a brace that attaches to the front suspension carrier and to the front lower sections of the frame rails.

Thats why the car understeers, well one of the reasons, is your tire pressures. I'd run 2.5 bar front, and 2.3 bar rear. That should give a 2 psi stagger fr/r. Higher front pressures will let the car understeer less.
