    Mod help

Hey whats up, im new here and bought a 1996 black m3. I bought this car as a substitute for a fd3s (3rd gen mazda rx-7). After reading up on the insane reliability problems of the rx-7 (engine blow, vacumm hoses need to be replaced,

and so on), i came to a conclusion that i will just get a m3 for the same price as a rx7 and save thousands of dollars and patience. I use this car as a daily driver to get to school and also as a "fun" car.

Main Point - i would like to keep the car n/a (to not deal with the problems of installing a turbo on a n/a car), so i was wondering what the BEST mods are to perform. Money is not that big of a deal for me as long as its under 5k. I would really perfer products that actually improve both torque and hp (a close range). As far as exhaust go, i do not care much about how good it sounds or such, just about maximum performance and hopefully dyno charts to back it up. I plan on using this as a autox car also. I have some mods in mind, any help would be greatly appriciated. My goal is to run over 300hp and a nice ammount of torque.

    Mods include -

    Conforti intake

    Conforti chip

    eisenmann exhast -- ???

    front strut

    rear strut

    bilstein shocks

    h&r springs

    zimmermann cross drilled rotors

    axxis metal masters pads

    motorsport x-brace

go with conforti chip, Group M intake (its the best money can buy) and if you don't care about how loud it is then go with UUC twin silencer. Get new pullies. Sway bars, and euro lights

I don't actually own an M3 but i do auto-x with a couple guys that do.

First if you really want to run well its important to match components, you cant go wrong with bilsteins and H&R but make sure you match the spring rate and drop to what ever shock/struts you choose. Two of my guys run stripped interiors and role cages with tubular from and rears but it doesn't sound like you are willing to go that far so the x-brace it a good idea. Avoid any of those gimmicky STB's if you look for one that solid mounts and hooks the strut towers and firewall. If get exhaust look for something that is a flow through design, you make most of your power up high anyway. And if you want a new tune avoid mail order stuff like the plague, get a competent dyno tune or custom order a chip. I'll stop there as i don't want anyone to be offended by my forwardness in a 1st post, but i have been at this stuff for a while so I can talk more as long as no-ones going to through the newbie card at me.

As far as exhaust goes, it needs to be street legal. As far as gutting interior and

racing seats, harness, and rollcage, im still not sure if i want to go in that direction. I like the way that the rollbar looks but I can't seem to find 1 that does not require the sacrifice of rear seats. The only ones that I found, have a huge bar behind the front seats.

Also, will i be making over 300hp with those modifications?

or are there other mods to be conisidered that do not rob torque in order to supply higher hp?

i have been looking at the supersprint headers and was hoping for any feedback?

those mods will not make 300HP by a long shot. The absolute best bang for the buck in terms of lowering autocross times is dedicated race rubber (unliveable on the street) on light wheels. You want torque and throttle response in autocross. I'd leave the engine stock. New shocks and bushings will help too and a little extra negative camber.. Stock M3 brakes are fine for autocross. 300 HP naturally aspirated will cost big bucks and make the car unhappy on the street. sounds like the car will be fun if you do what you have in mind though.

for 300 hp, one thing. Conforti cam kit. www.sharked.com . That paired with a good cat back, they all make the same power, and pulleys will be a great streetable motor.

The cam kit motor feels like stock, but with more power. No lumpy idle, stalling, or bad driveability issues.

Though a stock motor m3 is plenty. The suspension is where major improvements can be made.

If you want speed, don't forget a crank pulley (controversial, search for other threads) and 3.46 or higher differential (poor man's S/C).
