    Squeaky brakes???

Is it natural for m3 brakes to start squeaking as the weather gets colder? cause mine started to bad yesterday

nope. when you install brake pads, youll want to make sure they are seated correctly. That means, you place the metal slot and glue that comes with the kit on the back of the plate before you install them to the caliper. MANY shops dont do this as it is not needed. However, that plate is there TO stop squeaking. That is probably what is from. That or, there are also rivets/metal on the outside of the pad, depending on what kind you bought, that squeaks when the meat of the pad has worn. My guess is it is the first though.

Mine squeek from time to time and I have every anti-squeek coutermeasure deployed.

Yeah mine squeak too when you are barely using the brakes. A firm stop does not cause squeaking. I think this is fairly common for disc brakes.

try putting it in reverse and (in a safe place) get a little speed. Then get on the brakes. drive a bit (to cool them) and do it again... 2 or three times should HELP bed them better. Nothing too much (other than turning rotors/resurfacing) to completely correct problem. ///M brakes are more prone to squeeking than other cars.

I think it must be weather related somewhat. I never noticed a problem until it started to get colder (there's still lots of life on the pads BTW, and if they aren't bedded after 1+ years, they never will be) and once they're warm, they only squeek a little w/ lite pressure (as they do when it's warm).

My mechanic told me that the heat that is generated during braking can cause a glaze to build up on the rotors that can cause squeaking. He recommended going to an empty road or parking lot and driving with one foot on the brake and on on the gas for a few feet in in order to break the glaze up. He also said that if you vary your braking habits, in other word sometimes brake hard and fast, other times more slowly, they will be less likely to squeak.

what the mechanic said is mostly true... what makes them glaze is the buildup of heat, and a lack of pressure to really grind the hell out of the pads... so they "glaze" if you brake normally, and throw in some harder stops it will help (throwing in soft stops will only worsen it). Fix it by bedding them in like you do when new (30+ and stop), though I have found that it works better in reverse once they are older... don't ask why, I don't have an answer.

I used to have the same problem with my 2nd set of pads. PBR's i think they were. They stopped like factory pads but squeaked like crazy. Then I bought some non-squeaky pads from bimmerparts.com. Bosch pads. They fixed the noise problem alright (not one little bit of noise), but with a big trade off--- My braking distance / power is terrible now. Awful pads! Quiet pads = bad stopping power. Can't wait to wear them out.

If the noise bothers you, I hear that original ones are the best noise/performance combo. Of course, the Axxiss and Hawk pads will brake better, but might be noisy.
