WTF? my driverside door key lock broke

I need some advice. I went to put my key in the door to open it and the lock is stuck/broke? any advice to help, does it need replacement? how much? can a locksmith fix this? I hope the whole car does not need to get refitted/rekeyed? help!!

Sounds like you need a new lock cylinder. You only have to refit the entire car with new locks if you go over 10 keys.

You have to get it from a BMW dealer, as it comes coded via your VIN number. Bring you licence and registeration, you may need it.

Not sure of cost really. Depends alot on if you do it yourself or not.

When I bought my car it had the same problem. I wouldn't buy the car til it was fixed. The solution was actually simple. Just use some graphite on your key and lock. It should work. Good luck!

Ya know, that does bring up a good point, which I could have suggested before-hand. Have you tried to lube the cylinder up at all?

I would recommend just using the powder graphite and not the lube. The lube can cause grease to form later. Good luck!

Ill try this today , what do you think about just shooting some WD-40 in there. I didnt know if that might mess up something in there though? I'll try the powder graphite first. Thank you all for the help.
