I came across a '95 M3, cosmos black, black leather interior in immaculate condition, manual, 90000 miles and became very interested in the car after driving it this afternoon. It is everything people on this board say the car is. The car also has a cold air induction and a performance chip. I have a '03 RSX-S that I will keep and drive most of the time but wouldn't mind picking this up as an extra "spirited driving" car. I do have some questions for you guys however. First, does the '95 M3 have automatic climate control? It looked different then the '99 I looked at a while ago but it still looked like automatic climate control. Also, any problems to look for on the '95? I did a quick checkover and everything seemed to check out. I am going to have a mechanic where I work take a closer look but was wondering if there was anything specific I should have him look at. Finally, is 90000 miles too much on an M3? It was adult owned and never raced. Thanks in advance.

I too just picked up a 95 M3 a couple of months back with the same mileage. I love it. The climate control is similar to the 96+, however it uses turn knobs instead of push buttons. It does have dual climate control though.
The only problem that my car has and its fairly common is the window actuator. If the windows have a tendency to have a mind of their own sometimes and not roll all the way up when you push the auto up feature, it is a sign that they are about to go. It's an expensive job at a dealership or BMW repair shop it can cost up to $500 to fix both windows. I've heard of people doing it themselves, but it's time consuming and difficult.
I got mine for $12k with alot of mods and BBS wheels, just to give you an idea. Go for it, you won't be disappointed. Mine is a Sunday car, I only plan to put 6-8k miles a year. Good luck with your purchase.

I don't know what brand the chip and intake are but will find out as soon as I talk with the guy again. Is there a downfall to getting the 3.0 instead of the torquier 3.2? Mine will also be a weekend/leisure driving car. I am also considering selling my RSX and getting a low mileage '99 M3 but I like the idea of having a very reliable and winter car. There doesn't seem to be too big of a difference between the '95 and '99 and I can pick up the '95 very cheap.

Check the FAQ section for specifics on M3 maintenance issues. The cars can go well past 90,000....I would say it should be good till 200,000 or so, but maintenance is key...especially as a car ages. You will most likely have to rebuild the suspension if it has not been done already. These parts add up. There is no substitute for a low mileage one in good shape, so let the price reflect the mileage on the car.

Your idea of having a "winter car" is on the money. I have a 99 M3 but I kept my 94 camry for winter/bad weather use. My M3 still looks showroom condition.
I would buy the 95 and keep both cars. (IMO)

I just bought my '95 comsmos/black back in August w/ 83,000 miles and also in great condition. I'm sure you'll love it, as I love mine.
And with all that money you'll save buying a '95 rather than a '99, you'll be able to invest into some mods and liven up the car further. And with the mods you already have, you should be on par w/ a 3.2's torque output if not exceeding it.

I strongly suggest looking for a 96-99 M3. The 95's are nice but the 96+ are superior in a number of ways. Look up valve retainer failure if you don't believe me.
I think that if the owner took care of his car, he would have also have had replaced the valve retainers. Unless this problem is unknown to most '95 owners.

Alright I talked to the guy some more, $14500 is as low as he will drop. Car has BBS RK wheels, also comes with stock wheels both with good tread, cold air intake, chip, interior is in mint condition, exterior is in really good condition for being 10 yrs. old. Not sure if I should do this or not...what do you guys think?

It's not a GREAT deal but it's fair. I would definitely go with a 95 and keep your RSX. But I can tell you that you will want to drive your m3 way more than your RSX. If it is in as good of condition as you say it is, definitely pick it up. If properly maintained, the motors last a long time. Sounds good to me.

I don't think the '95 is worth it. I came across another M3 tonight. 1997, estoril blue, 82k miles, mint condition, ground control coils with konis, premium system, kenwood headunit, heated seats, manual tranny, drove perfectly, asking $16300 with the Inspection II just performed and a 30 day 100% warranty. The car is overall more attractive I believe, love the estoril blue, and it is in just as good a shape...only thing is its going to cost a little more. But I might keep both cars till the end of winter and then probably end up selling the RSX, haha... M3 is just too much fun to drive. The 3.2L has a lot more torque then the 3.0L. I drove both now and yes it is very noticeable. Anyways, think the '97 is a good deal?
