I agree. That price is low. I assume it's a 4 door, they do tend to go lower, but still. Vanos is $1000 installed. Make sure that is checked. In CA a car like that would go over 20, easy.

Four doors being worth less is kind of low blow, there is less of them and there even harder to find optioned well. ie. color, 5 speed, h/k , fold down seats.

Listen to Cleveland if it's one of your first buys. Remember it is a seven year old car so a wreck may show up on it, but if you have it checked out and it was correctly fixed i.e. panels match-up, tracks evenly on tires, but don't shy away at this price. A badly fixed car will be costly to fix if it can be at all. If you discover it has been wrecked it was probably at a high speed not a fender bender, these cars were made to go fast and most of the time the driver let it get away. More common maintenance at this mileage is the clutch $900.00, tires $600.00, Inspection II dealer $600.00 or your afternoon and $125.00 in parts, possibly rear shock mounts but they will may noise over bumps,

Wasn't trying to deliver a low blow, that's just what I've seen. I've consistantly seen 4 dr's go for a couple grand less than a comparable 2 dr.

Hard to find doesn't necessarily equal $. Actually, good deals on 4 doors seem to be easy to find. Many times they're auto's also, which compounds the matter.

I don't know about the lower price for a 4 dr either. If you check the KBB, the 4 doors with 5 speed are almost always more.

Thats because the 4dr 5 speed combo is very rare and those who appreciate the combo are the ones buying them up. They are stiffer cars (due to their 4 door construction...though not by much) and would potentially make better track cars.

Also those who have kids or need to get in and out of the backseat but still want the m3 give up nothing by buying an m3/4 in 5speed over the 5speed coupe...and gain the added convenience of rear doors.

Its understandable that an m3/4 5 speed would fetch more.

the m3 4 door is basically the same as the coupes cept for the obvious fact that it has 4 doors. i've heard someone mention before that there is weight loss in the doors because the coupes have very heavy doors & the sedans have lighter ones. but about sizing and what not, the sedans have the exact same wheelbase, length, and other dimensions as the coupe. the sedan makes the m3 even more practical.

well i am 20 years old and its a coupe. the reason i can get it as cheap as i can is because my friend took the car in on trade

some poor man had to get rid of his toy and by a "family" car

and i was a tech at a BMW dealership in phoenix for almost 2 years

but i would still like to see the list of things that i should make sure they inspect closely if you could

              thanks

My car did the same thing (ran cold on highway and normal in the city). Replaced the thermostat and it fixed the problem.

not the M3's that have the GT/LTW doors fitted. Ie, the first half year of the M3 Evolution ! !

Also in Europe the 4 door goes for alot less than the coupe, about a grand less than a identical coupe.

It's right there in the FAQ section.

Good luck, if the car is in good shape that's a very good price. And of course green is the way to go  (yours is boston green, not oxford, if you want to be precise)

When was Oxford green an option? I know there was Boston and later Fern green, but have never heard of Oxford.

Not trying to knit pick, just curious of what it looks like.

The reason I asked the first two questions:

If you are an older person, you probably already know a lot of this from buying several cars in your lifetime.

I was not trying to put anyone down. O.K. I am only trying to help. That's all.

Dude, your reply was awesome. A true "brother" in the hood :agree:
