Is there a was to check for clutch wear??

My 1999 M3 has just about 54,000 miles on it now and I was just curious if there was a way to physically check for clutch disk wear.

Is there some type of inspection port on the bell housing that I can look into or anything like that?

    Thanks

Go about 30 mph, put the car in 5th and apply gas.

If the RPMs shoot up rapidly, but you get very little foward movement, the clutch is worn out.

What SHOULD happen is after you put the car into 5th and apply gas, the RPMs should hover around 1,500 - 2000 rpms, but as you apply gas, the car should slowly gain speed.

dont you have to drop the clutch when you do this,.. like go 30, put the clutch in and put it in 5th and drop the clutch at about 4-5k rpm,.... and if it immediately grabbs, then its fine and if it slips a lot before it grabs then its done.....

Yeah - if you already have the clutch engaged and you apply the gas and the RPMs shoot up without changing the speed you have bigger problems.
