    hood friction struts

I'm back after two years of absense! I now have a 99 M3 convertible. I think its bone stock except for K&N filter.

The hood struts will not hold the hood up. Local dealer wants over 90 bucks for replacements. Has anybody found a cheaper after-market replacement?

And any good ideas on how to break loose the filter bolt without damaging the aluminum housing? Its frozen. fftopic:

I think I saw a new pair for around $25 on bimmerparts.com last week.

I always just lightly tap the socket wrench with a hammer (lightly!!) when something like that happens. :nixweiss:

            oil filter housing bolt?

ya, I don't think there's anyway you can do anything about that since the threads are buried. you could try heating it up a bit with a torch, and spraying it down with a penetrating oil...then it's just using a GOOD wrench that won't round the corners, and hope for the best. should be fine, never had any problem with mine....
