    Removing the glovebox

I read the DIY link on how to remove the glovebox and it says there are plastic tabs on top of the top 2 screws that need to be pried off with a flathead. Assuming I do this, will I be able to put these tabs back on? Does the presence of these tabs indicate that the glovebox has not been removed before? I'm trying to get to the source of a squeaking I'm getting that seems to be coming from behind the glove box. Anything else I should be worried about while doing this? I heard there are some tabs along the top edge that might break during this process.

it is very easy to do, i followed Mann's guide b/c i wanted to change my cabin airfilter, but i couldn't get to the filter. try this guide: http://www.logun.org/microfilter.htm or this one from mann: http://www.mann-hummel.com/mf_prodkata_all/einbau/HBJPN0FbufV.pdf

but like i said, taking off the glove box is easy

if those tabs dont seat themselves when you put them on, its nothing a little bit of glue can't hold!

i didn't read this part too carefully.... those plastic tabs are on there for appearance only. and they're not really "tabs", they're just rubber pieces so you won't have to worry about breaking anything. bmw put them in so people wouldn't have to look at the exposed top of the philips head screws. the plastic tabs are nothing to worry about.

The plastic caps snap onto special tapered screws. Don't mix them up with other screws, such as those under the dash, or the caps won't snap on.

Yeah when I first did mine I was so pissed because the damn tab wouldn't stay on one screw. After reading about it on one of the forums I figured out the head on those screws have a groove for the tab.

I have taken my glove box out of my car about 15 times now for various reasons.

The caps no longer stay in place, but I have gotten over it heh.

install the vents into the glovebox carrier first then into the dash., it lines up

                better this way.

be careful of the closing mechanism. I managed to break mine and now the door doesn't shut tightly.

Just a friendly reminder...last time i changed cabin filter, I forgot to tuck the thick cardboard-like bottom before putting the glovebox back in. I kept telling myself to remember to tuck it, but forgot.

Figured I'd reem it into your head through this post so u don't have to pull the screws back out and tuck in and rescrew like I had to.

                    Good luck.

Reminds me...i'm due for a cabin micofilter soon. =( Such a pain in the ass for our E36s...the E46 cabin filters are reachable through the hood. Lucky bastards.
