It seems like you guys are all engineers and make a lot of money and the M3 is just out of my reach at the moment. I'm scared that if i got enough to buy a 95 with decent miles I would run into trouble and be financially f'ed.
I was just wondering what cars you would recommend for the same type of expericence and or quality. By quality I mean well built cars that don't fall apart like my 91 explorer. I know this is way off topic but I don't know where else to go, and I know many of you are very knowledgable about cars in general and could help me out.
One more question...If I end up getting another SUV would a late 90s 4runner or Pathfinder hold up better than others? If I go the car route I would need something similar to a 3 series...Should I stay away from american cars in general?
I'm lost and open for suggestion.
Thank you.
Nick
excuse me..Bankers here....also its not a car knowledge thing, its a money thing...I would never get a used car...if I were you..I would get a new lease...a used car without warranty is high risk, unless its certified
how about a certified lease on used vehicles, but first of all, whats in your wallet? what is your budget?...then perhaps we can help you better.
if you do go 4runner, go late 90's for sure... the 2nd gen v6 (3.0L) (up to 95 I think?) is a horrible engine, bad mpg, etc. I have a friends in my garage right now (doing her head gaskets) and it's just horrible. I would tell her to get a new engine if the car were worth if ($$), but she wanted to save it without dropping half it's value into a head gasket.
If you do go with earlier 90's, go with the 4 banger - and don't expect much 'power' either way you go. : )
I would suggest a Cherokee with the I6 engine... 97-2001 is the newer body style. I like mine alot!
I just bought a 97 325I with a manual trans for my wife. It was $11.4k, one owner, 80k miles, and all maint records included. It is in better shape than my M and quite a blast to drive. While not as fast as my M, it handles quite well, and zips around with about 200hp. If I had found this before my M, I would have had to think real hard about which one to get. Take a look at other BMW's, read the reviews and ratings on different cars, and pick a good one. Like what was stated above, don't get burried in payments for a cool car you can't afford. Oh yea, don't get a volkswagon, they are not reliable, look at the reviews on edmunds.com.
