bad camshaft position sensor on 99 M3?

I have a Bav auto code reader and it reads a fault with the "camshaft sensor". The car seems to be slower (especially off the line), but no other trouble.

How important is this sensor to throttle response, etc?

Also, I thinks there are two sensors, but I'm not sure as I don't have any repair manuals and there is little posted about this topic. How do I know which one it is if there are two?

finally, what kind of repair are we talking about - I think the manifold cover needs to be removed to release the top sensor from inside?

Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

If you're camshaft sensor is bad, the engine will run extremely rough, won't respond to the throttle at all and will possible die out. I have had my cam shaft sensor go nuts on me before and thats the symptons.
