Im purchased a what i thought was a 95 M3, but after checking the door label i realize that it was manufactured in 03/94. I know its too late to ask but , is this a good buy or not? Is there a big difference between other 95 models? it has 117,000 miles and it runs really good. The pass. door sticks a little and it needs some paint attention. It has an Autothority exhaust, a strut tower brace and its been lowered. Im thinking of doing more power adders, but im not sure of what this car has as far as obd's go. Can i be helped??

ur car is an early production (nothing bad about that) 95 m3. your car doesnt have the 3.2l engine of the 96-99 model, but rather a 3.0l engine based off the 2.5l block from the current-at-the-time 325i.
theres no way to judge wether or not it was a good buy. depending on what you paid for the car. i dont know what the prices for a used e36, but i would expect a high mileage, modified car with some issues (the door, paint, etc) wouldnt cost as much as a perfect condition 95 m3.
u know something, 3/94 sounds like a really early production date...you may have one of the first e36 m3's, and if so, congrats. now go fix that paint and represent like you should

Its still considered a 95 m3...mine is a 10/94 production..nothing bad about that. There are only slight differences between your car and other 95s:
-You may have a tilt steering wheel (thats all I can think of for now)
Your car is obd1...mod away. :agree:

Thanks for your response. I dont have a tilt wheel though. What is the difference between OBD1 and OBD2, as far as modifications? Any restrictions?

Thanks for your response. I wonder how i can find out if this was one of the first built. Kind of curious. I plan of having a lot of fun with this car. And I hope i can afford to do so.

Run a search on the differences. It used to be an issue where obd1 was easier to tune...now it is pretty much the same for either. One major difference is that obd2 uses software flashes where obd1 uses physical "chips" which are replaced to change software.
Of course, the 3.2 motor is obd2 whereas the 3.0 is obd1...
As far as checking the production number I believe it is the last few digits of the vin. What are the last few numbers?
Its hard not to get all caught up in the modding..be careful.

There are pros and cons to a early production date 95. Nothing to major.
Pros
-Tilt wheel
Cons
-Not predrilled for X brace
-Weaker valve springs (new ones started on 10/95s)
Also some cars dont have one touch open sunroof or the ability to start the car in neutral without using the clutch. Dont know when these changes were made though.

BMW has the following system on what model year the car is.
Production after 1/9-19xx is the next year production.
Meaning a car produced xx/8 1994 is a 1994 model, and a car
produced xx / 9-1994 is a 1995 model.
Normal August is vacation time so when they start up after the holiday they start with next years production.

Cool, what would you recomend as far as starting to mod. The previous owner installed Autothority exhaust, lowering springs and a strut tower brace. Dont think he added a chip, because the top speed is around 135mph. I added a K&N filter, removed airbox. Thanks
