Need help with friends car (Preformace cams)

Okay, so my friend is getting a completely re-worked M3. Hes pretty sure he put preformace cams in, a good bet they are the shrick cams, however; hes having some issues with the engine.

I told him he's supposed to get software done along with the cams to get the full benifit from them and so the engine runs correctly.

    So, two questions.

    1) Am I correct? (I am not always sure heh)

    2) What software if need be?

    Thanks in advanced guys.

yeah im pretty sure he needs to get some kind of software to remap the A/F... with the cams it should adjust the amount of fuel needed (mostlikely needs more) and therefore the car could run lean.. just a thought.. granted this is right off the top of my head.. im kinda woozy in this area.. learning as usual!

software would be a good idea as the timing needs to be corrected with new camshafts.

The car will run terribly without software (different lift and duration than the stock software allows for)

It would be bad at best. He also needs a 3.5" HFM and Intake in order to let the engine breathe as deeply as its going to need to with the more aggressive cams.

The software that is best is the one offerred by www.turnermotorsports.com (conforti software..but I am not sure if they sell the chip/software seperatley)

Trevor what year car? Yes you are correct. As Richard said, Conforti/turner don't sell their OBDI or OBDII software seperately. If he is obdII his best bet is AA, or custom tuning from someone like Nick G. For OBDI, get the HFM and get a stickley chip.

The engine is a 97, so its OBDII.

I was already pretty sure on the software, just couldn't remember who to get it from.

Didn't even think about the 3.5 HFM or intake.

He is kinda screwed then. ha

AA, Nick G., Eurospeed, or unichip. Those are his best options.

Trev, think this is the first time I've tried to help YOU out, rather than other way around.

As others have said, think he needs everything referenced here for best performance, link also contains info on performance gains to a 98:

He mentioned he may scrap the project and get a used 330i, the cost to benifit is too much, hes already spent over 18,000 for the entire endevour.

So, I may be getting some parts from him if he ends up scrapping it.
