If you are upgrading your engine, why not go with the 3.2?

3.0 and 3.2 in good shape with around 50k miles will be $3500-$5000

New from the dealer is $7500 or so with a core charge.

I have a reciept here for $8,000 when the previous owner droped a new block in my car because he exploded the original.

I got the car with a new engine that had ~2,000 miles on it. Now it has around 20,000 or so.

Not to Hijack this thread, but for those of you who have replaced your engines, was there any signs that the engine was going down hill before it finally bit the dust?

I hear of alot of people having to replace their engines, and it kinda worries me. I never had my compression checked before I bought my car. But I know it hasn't dropped a bit of oil in the 4 months I've owned it. And it drives strong with no studdering.

No signs...mine just dropped a valve on a spirited drive.

I am not so sure about Bav Engine...a member on bimmerforums had a "performance upgraded" engine sent to him from Bav Engine and it never ran like he thought his stock motor had...turns out they had put 328 cams in his 3.2 motor. :chair:

The last one in my car was money shifted... so I guess the sign was the tach screaming over 8,000 and metal parts from inside the engine flying out.

I was considering getting a Bav engine and putting it on Ice till I need it. But 328 cam on the 3.2 scares me.
