Pop's a Dent anyone try it?

Anybody have a George Foreman Grill? Or try a Simoniz Pop's a Dent? We have a small door ding on our Sube that I am tempted to try this on. It also got hit in the rear last week to the tune of $2000. (Too much for even a PopsaDent)

Anyway since I have had such good luck with my ThighMaster, I figured if it is seen on Cable TV it must be good , as the FCC has most likely tested it.

They don't work very well from what I've heard.

Here's the deal. I have a 2200 lbs Miata. The sheet metal is as thin as it gets...by design.

I bought this thing for $20 and went to town on about 7 dings. You have to use it multiple times per ding. I removed 90% of 3 of them after about 9 times each. Others I was able to remove between 33% and 66% of the dings.

It's time consuming 'cause you have to use a glue gun with each go.

And when all is said and done it feels good to pay so little while at the same time it feels frustrating to spend so much time with the damn tool for not so great results. And I suspect that with the M3's thicker metal it won't do as good.

Think about whats pulling that dent out. Your paint.

I've heard good things with dry ice... not exactly sure of the process, but I'm sure I'll give it a try next time I have a ding (I don't like the idea of drilling a little hole in the panel : )

You dont' have to drill a hole in the panel. I used it on my Nissan. It made it look a lot better, but with the thicker sheet metal on the M, I couldn't get it to work as well. But thinking about it, Sirius is right, it is pulling on your paint, so I don't know if I will try it again.

lol - no, I meant with other dent pulling techniques... a traditional puller is with a hole... i've just heard good results with dry ice (and it sounds like this other thing is a lot of effort and very little result)

My bad... :haha: if the dent is big enough, you can pick up suction cup pullers that work with varying degress of success. Also it only cost me $2.99 so if it doesn't work for your application, it isn't that big of a loss.

A friend of mine has an older Explorer and used that thing on it with a great deal of success. I think I'd take my M to a pro though.

BTW: I just upgraded my old college George Foreman grill to the new "Next Generation George Foreman grill" with removable burners that can go in the dishwasher. I highly recommend it

I am pretty sure the paint would not pull off. Anyways, maybe it doesn't bug me enough to do anything about. I just hope they match the paint well when the fix the REST of the problems.

Go to Lowes and pick up the *Cobra PLUNG - IT.......it is meant for the toilet but works on dents....buy one test it and return it if it doesnt work... LOWEs takes everything back......whats 10 dollars to see if you can get the dent out..... plus it uses rubber so there are no scratches... a guy at work used it on his car!!!!

My dings are about 2/3 bigger than a quarter, so that sounds too big. I don't see how the glue could scratch, nor pull off the paint. Probably the best bet is paintless dent removal from the inside. The experts can really do some impressive dent removal.

Theres a good chance the paint won't come off, but if the car has been repaired before, or it wasn't preped properly or there just happnes to be bad adheasion of the paint to the metal, it could take your paint off instead of pull the metal out.

If I was to do any PDR on my car, which I have, its the normal mythod of going to the backside of the panel and pusing the dent out.
