I recently bought a rebuilt 97 M3 sedan for 5k. The car runs beautifully and is pleasantly fast. As I work the little bugs out of it like swaybar links, brakes, struts, etc., I have found other little things that could use attention. When I spoke with the man that rebuilt the car, he informed me that the little switch behind the gas pedal is not connected. He said he didn't know what it did and couldn't find anywhere to plug it in. I did a little searching of my own and found that it has something to do with downshifting the tranny when you really rump on the gas. Does anyone have any idea where I am supposed to plug this in?

5K? That's pretty cheap.

Is this an auto or manual? If it is an auto, then yes that switch has something to do with telling the tranny to downshift if possible. I assume it would attach to the tranny ECU wiring harness.
if it was rebuilt, maybe the ECU is different between the auto and manual or something.. that switch is for downshifting.. when u hit it, it will automatically shift down one gear.. 5K is a steal regardless of what it looks like.. is the frame straight? hell u could part that car out for more than 5k.. lol..

Yep, its strait. It'll really boogie too! The car was totalled after being rear-ended pretty hard. The frame wasn't bent in the accident, but the back end of the body was toast. It took replacing the entire back half of the body to fix it.
Oh, and yes, it is an automatic "Luxury" version sedan. I absolutely love the car and I love the idea that it'll launch faster than it already does without the kick-down switch! I'd really appreciate a pic of where to plug it in though.
Thanks

That switch is called the kick down switch. Its there to tell the ECU and the transmission control unit that you need to go, quickly. When the kick down is used, if possible the tranny usually drops a couple gears.
Automattic cars only of course.
OK, I got that part. Where do I plug it in? It is currently disconnected.
