    ///M Roadster

    I have a few questions about the M Roadster vs. an E36 M3. Am I right that the M Roadster has the S52 with 240 hp through 2000, and then the S54 for 01? Also, for a 98 M Roadster, it has a 5 speed, correct? Does anyone know the weight on these things? In comparison to an E36 M3, I assume the Roadsters are faster, but do they handle as well or better than the M3? Lastly, is it more difficult to modify an M Roadster than an M3? Thanks for the help.

    Yes you are right on the engines. Yes, you are right on the transmissions. Weight..I am not totally sure..I would assume it is lighter than the e36 m3. I believe they handle in an equal manner to e36 m3s. (Roadster not having a roof makes it flex more than its Mcoupe counterpart. :bow: )

    Modifications are pretty similar...and are right on par with e36 m3 modification costs and availability.

    I would much prefer the Mcoupe over the Mroadster though..just look at this thing:

      Thanks for the response. That is a great looking car, it just seems they are more difficult to find than the M Roadsters.

        Thats very true.

        Both cars are very cool.

          Does the M Coupe have a back seat?

            Nope...just an Mroadster with a roof. Also...instead of the trunk it obviously has the hatch.

              Ok, thanks. I've searched on the internet and found 0-60 of 5.1 and 1/4 of 13.7. Does this sound reasonable?

                That sounds about right. THe 0-60 seems fast.

                    the only short coming of a m coupe/roadster is in the rear. The rear suspension is that of an e30, semi-trailing arm. Not the better mulit link setup of e36's. It makes the car twitchy at the limit.

                    They are tear out their rear subframes/diffs with alarming frequency. Something to watch and check when buying.

                    They are great cars, my parents used to have a 99 Roadster, fun car. Kinda feels like a parts car, not designed as a whole, IMO, boxster S is a better car.

                    oh, and good god that silver thing Richard posted is hideous.

                      This probably doesn't matter but the S54 in the newer M Coupe/Roadsters only puts out 315hp vs the 333 of the M3.

                        I have to disagree on the ///M Coupe that Rich posted. I think it looks good.

                            I have read that the M Coupe handles a lot better than the M Roadster. I would go for the Boxster S over the M Roadster as SG says.

                              Well, I'm still debating it, but I'll probably stick with the E36 M3.
