    Engine Fan Exploded

2nd gear 4k and I felt a bad vibration and rattling noise, when I stop the car was already getting hot. I shut it off and opened the hood, the fan was missing half the blades, one of them broke two radiator ducts, water pump destroyed and the pulley cracked by the vibration. Gotta say this is the first time my car has any kind of mechanical hicup, so I was very surprised.

The baby is all fixed now but this is a first for me........anyone heard of this on our engines???????

The engine cooling fan that runs off the water pump pulley, I'm guessing you're calling it crank fan because the belt is driven by the crank pulley.

I have seen it happen to my friends 325. It didn't do as much damage, but it sucked none the less

so then is there really any disadvantage to the FDK.. i mean it seems ur getting rid of two problems at 1 time..

if you don't do your FDK right, your engine can overheat.

i know besides the obvious.. i would get some help to make sure the system was flushed right though..

same here. but for me, i'm considering buying a SPAL aftermarket fan just for peace of mind.

I had fan blades break off on my '93 325is because of the fan coupling going bad. If you have a rough idle, you may want to make sure none of your fan blades are broken off.
