Could anyone help me to define the following terms as they relate to suspension?
pre-load?
sprung and unsprung weight?
Thanks,
Preload: I want to say this is the way the car sits when on the ground. By this I mean the suspension wouldnt be "hanging" as it is when the car is jacked up or on a lift. A simulation of the car as sitting on the ground..though it is up in the air.
Spring and Unsprung Weight: Sprung weight is that weight on the car which is supported by the springs of the car. This would mean your interior, motor, whole chasis, etc.
Unsprung weight is that which the springs dont need to support as in the wheels, and brakes, tires as well.
Unsprung weight is much "heavier" in the sense of putting your car on a diet.
