    Replacement Battery?

I went to start my car after letting it sit for 4 days and all I heard was the silenoid clicking and then a metallic woodpecker noise which I can only assume was my starter not getting enough juice to actually spin up. After sitting in the cold for last 4 days and having me leave the cabin lights on for 30 minutes without the engine running, I wouldn't have imagined that my battery would drain enough not to start, so it must be bad. Do you agree?

Also, if you were to get a replacement battery, what would you get? I want something with OEM fitment and equal power and reliability. I've heard some dropping in Optimas (which I have in my truck and boat), but does this fit the same and is there any benefit (my car doesn't get bounced around a lot and it doesn't sit for more than 3-4 days at the most)? If my battery is original (I'm checking with the previous owner), I almost think that I might just get another BMW battery since 8 years is pretty good.

    TIA,

Optima batteries are awesome. Lots of CCA's, and plenty of juice for the job. If your battery is original, you might want to replace it. Usually a battery won't discharge in just 4 days, either you just have an old battery with old electrolytes which won't hold a charge, or you have a weak alternator which doesn't charge the battery enough. First thing I'd try would be replace the battery with an optima, and if this happens again, investigate the alternator. good luck!

Had the same battery problem three weeks ago. No one at either of the two Auto-Zones I went to had a clue so I ended up with an OEM battery. $140 - OUCH!! I was able bargain the club price, but still $100 bucks.

For those of you who have Optimas, which one fits a '99 M3? I went to the site and plugged in my ride, and it says they don't have one that fits this car. Thx.

I have 2 Optimas already in other vehicles and they work great. Does the standard red top fit in the M3 without any problems? Do the tie downs work ok?

The one in my car was replaced with an OEM battery from the dealer. I remeber it was around $120 with me installing it myself of course.
