    Buying....

    Hi all.

After lots of hmm-ing and haw-ing, I'm about to make my entry into M-World.

I have a quick question. I've seen a black on black '95 with 78K on the clock from a dealer. He's asking $15k.

However, my question is: would you still Lemon Check it at another dealer?

    Cheers

by lemon check, i suppose you mean carfax

and yes i would, and see if they offer any incentives, like an extra 1yr, 1,000 mile warranty, that way you can make sure they will fix anything you find wrong

I did. I bought mine from a dealer, the guy was really cool and honest(you can't always tell), but I wanted to be sure what he was telling me was right. I told him I wanted to have the car checked out at another shop, he told me they wouldn't find anything wrong and tossed me the keys.

I would do it unless there's someone at the dealship you can really trust.

Well, there's no-one at the dealership I know, let alone trust. I work in software sales so I am a bit of a shark myself, and I know that Caveat Empror is always the order of the day.

The reason I am deciding is that they are a small dealership, and I am thinking about taking it to a more specialised service cetners. The car is here:

        www.gamaimport.com

It's listed as an M3 Sedan for some reason?

I am thinking of taking it to Phaedrus Indepedent BMW in SF, which has come highly recommended.

Looks like an awesome car, I like the Vaders. It's hard to find an E36 with seats still in good condition.

IMO it's definitely worth the few bucks to pull up Carfax, and the 100 bucks or so to have the bimmer dealership give it a good look-over.

                Ouch....that sux :banghead: .

I believe cars like the M3 are sometimes refered to as sedans because they're based off of a sedan platform with back seats.

Interesting....I didn't know M3 coupes came in automatics. I thought just the 98 Sedans had that feature...Also I notice that the side skirt IS from a sedan...Someone else on this forum will have better knowledge than me on the 95 but I think that looks fishy...I would do a carfax and also have an independent garage do a thorough check to make sure this car was not in an accident...hmmmm

Oh forget this....I was out of date...should have looked at the rest of the threads...ooooops..

yeah, that guy's name is justin wong, I bought an AA gen3 exhaust, short shifter, and intake from him! This was a while ago, he wanted to return his car to stock to sell it. Guess that's what he did.

I see. Would having it modd-ed and then returned to stock have screwed anything up? I contacted Phaedrus and they said they could spend 1 hour doing the chassis and road test but couldn't do an engine internals without spending at least another hour - I don't think I am going to have the time.

                        What says this great site?

No, those are very basic mods that are almost impossible to mess up. You could use them to judge his character though, maybe ask him if the car's ever been modded.
