    Alternator Whine '96 Coupe w/HK

I have a '96 Coupe with HK sound. It has an alternator whine heard through the speakers that is very annoying. The noise is only heard at low speeds and with the volume low or with the stereo off altogether.

Normally I would think this is an amp problem but before I rip the factory amp out I wanted to check if it might be something else. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks.

it is usually a grounding problem, try wrapping all of your ground leads for the stereo in lead tape, that way it cant transfer through, i have the same problem but it with an aftermarket kenwood system, it isn't all the time though so i just let it go

yes its either a bad ground or the gain is set too high on the amp....but thats usually only with an aftermarket amp

thanks for your advise on this. I'll take a look at the grounds for the amp, I know the grounds are good for the stereo.

does anyone know where the factory amp is located? Is it under the seat?

        Thanks again.

Amp is in the left side of the trunk. Just pull out the carpeting on that side and you should see the black amp.
