Windshield /trim/ rust

I was washing my e36 yesterday and noticed some rust starting above the windshield under the flexable rubber trim, obviously a scratch from removing a previous windshield was to blame. i sanded it quite well, but want to remove the trim to make sure its all gone. any experience with this? what tools are needed? anyone run into this problem?

I can't remember if you need to pull the windshileld on the E36 to remove the trim or not. I know for a fact that you have to on the E46 to R/I the trim though. :hmm:
