JustTires tried to charge me $35, I told them the place down the street did it for $20, so they did it for that. The NTB I also go to charges $20.

wow, I was arguing over $30 for all 4 tires - you definitely got ripped. Sometimes I think they charge high prices for mounting/balancing if you bring in tires purchased somewhere else - they feel like they are losing business to places like tire rack.

They're a little hard to install, but not $140 hard.

yeah i'm pretty sure i did get ripped off. so in all it cost me @$940 inclu the tyres i bought from tire rack. hopefully the rears will last more than 10,000 miles. otherwise i'll be buying cheap/nasty kumho's.

I suppose it depends on what you're comparing it to. Compared to mounting tires on a minivan; YES the ///M tires are more difficult to mount. In my part of the country, tire shops haven't dealt with as many low-profile tires and therefore haven't raised their prices to suit.

Older tire mounting machines have a metal boot that rides against the rim as it turns to force the tire over the lip. If it binds just right it'll crack your rim for you. More experienced tire shops use a machine with a nylon boot and also electronically match-balance the tires. Makes a huge difference in the long run.

I'd look to be sure the tire machine is up to date and for that kind of money, be sure they're going to match-balance (oppose slight tire imperfections with rim imperpections by repositioning the tire on the rim).

                Best balancing is road-force balancing.

I put my yoks on the rear wheels and yes they are a pain in the but. They were too wide for the machine which meant they hit the arm. super stiff side wall was not fun to get over the rim with out tearing it. I pretty much decided that I would take it to a shop next time instead of spending 1.5 hours doing it myself. BTW between my buddy and me we have mounted hundredsa of car and sport bike tires. these were some of the toughest we have ever tackled.
