wheel offset question on e36 m3???

Hey yall, i'm new to this site, but I have a question, I just bought these BBS wheels off of tirerack.com but it only has a 40 offset. My main question I fitted just the rim because i dont have the tire yet, it's a 18x8.5 & i'm still trying to figure out whether I'll need spacers or not, from when I just put the rim on when the car was jacked up I had about a finger length space between the inner rim & the suspension, but i'm wondering when i put the tire on or when i get it off the jack to whether it'll be rubbing or not???

A 40mm et should be fine with an 18x 8.5 wheel. I run an 18x8.5 with a 38mm offset and it fits fine.
