New M3 owner, have a few questions...

    Hello everyone,

I've been trolling these boards for a bit, I love the amount of content that is here. I just bought a '97 M3 about two weeks ago and have been changing things here and there.

One question I have is regarding the DDE rings for lighting. I bought a pair of DEPO lights with the hyper blue rings and set them up. I was wondering if there is a way to make the rings light up while the lights are on, instead of just acting as running lights and turning off while the HL's are on.

My other question is regarding the Shrick cam system. I am taking a look at doing that to my M, but I already have Shark Injector software and a different CAIS. My question is this: Should I just use the CAIS that comes with the kit, or does that make a big impact? I know the Shark Injector software probably won't be tuned right to run the different cams and intake manifold, so I'll have to go with the different software.

Also, if I do this kit, does anyone know a good BMW mechanic in the Salt Lake City, UT area that can perform an install on this and tune it correctly?

    Thanks in advance.

    -Steve

Hook the DDE rings into your parking lamps.

On a side note, I am from SLC, awesome place. Sure beats the DC area. :jerkit:

I saw a DIY thread on hooking them to the parking lamps, is that all it will take then? I want to be able to have the halo's on by themselves, or with the lights on too.

Thanks for the info btw, and yeah, SLC is a lot better than most people give it credit for.

Well, the way I wired mine to work is with a switch, but the catch is that the parking lamps have to at least be on to give power to the DDE rings. If you wanted, you could hook them to their own circuit, throw a fuse in line, run a switch to the cabin and you would be set.

your dde's shouldn't turn off when your headlights turn on. how do you have that wired?

I got the lights from Umnitza about a week and a half ago. They didn't have any instructions, so I called in and talked to someone there.

The guy there gave me some instructions that didn't work, and when I called back they put me on hold right before close and then dropped the call. So then I hopped online and found a page from Umnitza using the Plug and Play adapters they make for the lights, that's how it's wired right now.

The instructions I followed can be found here:

            http://www.umnitza.com/product_info.php?products_id=34

I think I might have a problem too because I followed those schematics, but the high beams won't work when the low beams are turned all the way on.

I tried to wire it a few different ways, and after a few hours I just figured the lights are made a little funky.

You will need the new software, and need to use the new intake. It is a .5" larger than the intake you have now. Since you are OBDII, the best way is to buy the cam kit from conforti.

Conforti is based out of SLC, www.sharked.com

Cool, I had heard they were in SLC.

On another note, I took another look at the wiring on my DEPO lights to make sure there wasn't anything I missed, and I'm not coming up with anything.

I followed the wiring that Umnitza says on its site and the halo's work when the fogs are on, the lows work when the lights are switched all the way on, and the brights only work with the fogs going.

I also checked to make sure I didn't flip the PnP adapter where the old lights unplugged and its not that either.

                Any ideas?

Were you the one that left us a fun vice mail recently? We didn't drop your call. We just couldn't find your number as it was unlisted and since you didn't call us back, we had no way to leave a message.

I didn't leave a voice message, I was put on hold by someone and then the call dropped. I called right back and it went straight to voicemail saying it was after your normal hours, so your story doesn't add up; however, that's besides the point as I need to know how to correctly wire these lights as the info one of the employees at Umnitza gave me is incorrect, and apparently so is the info on your site.

When I hook up the lights so that the high and low beams work while the lights are switched all the way on (two clicks over), the halo's don't work *at all*, yet when I switch those two wires to get the halo's to turn on, they only work on the fog and park setting (one click over) and the high beams only work on this setting, not on two clicks on.

So basically, what do I need to do to get A) The halo's to turn on with the headlights and the parking lights and B) the high beams to work correctly?

Please call us, you have a relatively straightforward fix to deal with.

As to the story, that's why it was a question, not a direct comment Thanks
