    My New M3

    Hey everyone,

name is john and I live in austin texas. just bought my 98 M3 sedan. I was wondering if yall could give me some advice into the first steps to take for upgrades. Its and automatic, all my friends wanted me to get standard but automatic was more pratical for the massive amounts of driving that I do. I was wondering, Is this an e36 or e46? Just post I want to learn alot on this forum. :chair:

I just purchased my first BMW 2 weeks ago. I live in Round Rock, TX. I got an Arctic Silver/Black 5 speed with 60,900 incredibly-maintained miles. I found it in Houston. I will post some pics of mine.

Yours is an E36 for sure. I'm not sure I can be of much help, but I have been researching them for about a year. The best thing to do is to belong to sites like this and bimmerforums.com and just do searches under E36 M3 threads and you can find ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you ever wanted or needed to know.

I have to say I can't believe you got an automatic, but hey, congrats anyways!

P.S. I'm not trying to hijack your thread. Welcome to the club - from a new member myself.

What do you want out of the upgrades? I would suggest euro headlights as the best real world , initial upgrade. If you drive a lot, and like music, chuck the factory head unit too. Change the rear strut mounts if they are of unknown quality.

no i will continue to deliver pizzas in my 02 corolla. The M3 i bought to be my baby (if you know what i mean). As far as upgrades, I already have the euro lights on there, I want to be fast. I like the suspension that is already on my car so that will stay for now. Eventually I want to get the engine stroked and rebuilt and then add a supercharger for about 600hp. I want to do 10 second 1/4 miles and still rock everyone at top speeds. I know this is a slow process because of the amount of money it requires but I am willing to wait the time for this project to complete. Im off to go take some pictures for yall.

i wouldn't worry much about doing a 1/4 mile i 10 secs or having 600hp.. u should drive it in the turns.. anyone can drive straight.. but can u take the curves.. now thats where this car shines..

                  John,

Welcome, here, I`m afraid that you bought the wrong car ... there are a few other cars that can do want you want with less money. M3 ment to be more like track cars than a muscle car. Enjoy your car... I think that you would be very happy with it. 350 WHp are pretty much OK for an M. And gives you great driving pleasure.

                  Regards Eduardo

                    WTF?

In this thread you want 600hp in another thread you want 400hp. Where are you getting these numbers? Are you just making them up because they sound good?

You need a muscle car for 10 sec 1/4 miles, not an M3. It is possible to make the M3 that fast, but you'll be spending more money than you spent on the car to do so. Plus why on earth would you buy an automatic if your plan was to mod it for big hp. It doesn't make any sense unless you are planning to replace the tranny as well.

i originally planned on eventually swapping the transmission. I got this m3 for a very good price and have the money necessary to make the upgrades. I was looking for the first upgrades necessary.

Don't let them get to you man. Just be glad about your purchase if YOU'RE happy with it. We all have different preferences and some people just can't get past that. I'm just glad to hear you're not going to be delivering pizzas in it. That would ABUSE an M3.
