Tire dilema - went all 4 8.5" wheels

OK, I got a second set of OEM Double Spoke 2's, made a snow set of the 4 7.5's, and a street/track set of the 8.5's (well, trying to).

The new wheels came with some Continental Sport Contacts in 245/45/17 which are practically new. My old 8.5's has Kumho Ecxta MX's in 245/40/17 and they are down to the point where there is almost no tread left. They were in the rear of the car for 5 track events and 12,000 miles. The Kumhos are way wider than the Continentals. The Kumhos are not on the wheels right now, the continentals are. I test fitted a continentals on the front of the car with the 8.5's, it BARELY misses the strut inside, seems to miss the fender lip OK (i hope).

My problem is that I was planning on using up the Kumho's in the front on my first track day of the season, as I can't afford new tires now. But I don't think they will fit! I wanted to finish them off by wearing out the shoulders. I wore through the shoulders on the old 225 Kumho's down to the wires, thus the need for front tires.

I also have the 225/45/17 Continentals that came with the new set of wheels, but I was wanting more grip up front even with the Kumho's, so using these Conti's up front would defeat the purpose i think.

Would I gain anything by using the 225/45/17's Conti's on the 8.5" wheel in the front? Or should I use the 245's in the front? and use the old kumhos in the rear and hope I don't blow a tire on the 4 hour drive to the track?

    Any help/opinions appreciated!

Any help/opinions appreciated!245/45-17 is too tall. 245/40-17 on 8.5 x 17, 41-offset M Double Spoke II reportedly fits in the front wheel psotions, on stock suspensioned E36 M3s. You could mount 225/45-17 Contisports on 8.5 x 17s. The wider wheel rim will give the 225/45-17 a wider contact patch. Hope your DE was fun.

I use 8.5 Wheels all around with 245/40/17 Toyo tires. Also I run with 1.5 degrees negative camber all around. No clearence problems.

Do not put yourself at risk. Use your best tires.
