    timing belt

Hello. So I have about 90,000 on my car now and don't think the timing belt has ever been changed. I called the dealership, and they said that it was a chain? Is this true? What belts should I change? Thanks.

It is a chain, prolly wouldn't hurt to change the accessory drive belts and hoses though

It's a chain, which is never to be replaced. Do the drive belts though.

        yep, 2 accessory belts.

and WHILE you are there....since the fan is such a pain to get off, replace

        tensioners

        pulleys

        thermostat

        hoses

        coolant

        plugs

        fuel filter

no sense in letting that stuff fail...and mailorder it's not too expensive

That could be argued. Chains wear as well. I know of a few BMW chains that have broken.

Obviously, the replacment intervals for chains are much longer than belts...

it depends on the condition of the chain. more than likely the chain will not need replacement, but rather just retensioning

My first car, a 1984 Subaru Gl, had a timing belt. Also, it was in such bad shape that only 3 of the 4 cylinders made any power
