    dropped valve!!!

i drive a 98 4 door M3, and up until a month agao was very satisfied. the all hell broke loose. i experienced problems with the double vanos, was told the exhaust side of the double was jammed. replaced it with a second hand unit, which was in perfect condition. then hadc a twat work on the car to such an extent that the car had a constant rough idle, like it had a racing cam in old fixed camshaft cars. then had this rectified , by reputable agency in johannesburg, south africa. also had car dyno tuned everything good. two days later at 60 km/h in 3rd gear, car just started driven two blocks and then drops valve. engine ran for bout 10 seconds before switching off. upon inspection found car broke inlet valve of first cylinder, thereby destroying piston in cylinder 1. now from all sources, experts and engineers, told car was over revved or red lined in order to break valve, impossible at bout 3000 rpm, and at 60 km/h. if there is anyone out here who could please tell me how the hell this is possible??? what could have caused such a problem, are there any other explanations for this?? also could it have caused the engine block to crack cause that is what has been found????

thanks very much for any info!

I take it you drive a euro M3 because the US E36's don't have double vanos. It also sounds like a valve retainer gave out.

i thought that the retainer problem had been rectified in the 3.2 liter?
