I am thinking about towing my "95 M3 several hundred miles. Should I rent a car dolly capable of taking all four wheels off of the highway, or is it okay to keep the rear two wheels on the road?

You really should never drag the drive wheels. the proper way to tow a rwd car is to have the 2 front wheels draggin and put a steering wheel lock on it. If yur car is auto, dragging the rear wheels even in neutral can ruin the tranny.. you should take the drive shaft out in that case. if your car is stick its not going to dammage anything as manuals have no tranny pump, but its still better to drag the fronts.. if it were me i'd get all four off the road.

Well isn't your a trailer queen? Any upadtes on what went wrong?
I was just waiting for one of you to rag me about towing the car. I was only considering it to keep the miles down and keep it clean for a car show. I appreciate all the input from everyone, but it took a smart ass z lover to convince me to drive the car. (Ihave owned 3 1983 280 zx turbos 1 auto, and a 1986 300 zx non-turbo). The 1983 datsun/nissan 280zx turbo should go down in history as one of the all-around great vehicles of all time.

lol "Trailer queen?" If by that you mean it sees a lot of tows for stupid ****, well - Yes. However at 116,000 extremely hard-driven miles, my car is every bit as embattled a road warrior as any other car on this site. I wouldn't have it any other way - it would be doing the M3 too serious a disservice.
That latest piece of fantasticness came from recent work I had performed on the front end. After I was backed into at a toll booth by some brain surgeon in a minivan who decided that he was in the wrong lane, the body shop failed to remove all of the shattered fan blade shards that were left in the engine bay. As a result they tore the serpentine belt apart, which was the culprit for both the higher-RPM "death rattle" and the obscene knocking at idle.
Phew.
